Lactate in Cell Culturesmshenrie2001-09-20Click here to register.
Why is lactate produced in cell cultures? Is this a result of normal metabolism, or does it indicate that cells are under stress. Is glucose depletion directly correlated to lactate production?

Lactate is a result of normal metabolism.  It is proportional to glucose consumption.  In the body, lactate is carried away and does not harm the cells.  In tissue culture this does not happen and needs to be monitored to achieve efficient cell growth.
