Any effect of phenol red in culture media other than pH indicator? What is the concentration that is commonly used in culture media? Thank you.

Phenol red can have some protective effects on the media by reducing the light sensitivity. It also has some purported estrogenic effects on cells in some cases.
The range is about 1-20 mg/L phenol red. DMEM has 15 mg/L, RPMI has 5 mg/L.
