We are performing a phase I clinical trial involving in vitro expansion of autologous Schwann cells and transplantation of these cells in patients with spinal cord injuries. We plan to use autologous human serum in our culture system. Previously, we were able to culture human Schwann cells in the presence of FBS, but because of safety concerns, we decided to replace it with human serum.
we suppose that it would be better to strip human serum with dextran/charcoal to reduce its
hormonal concentration(like cortisol). So, I would appreciate it if you could let me know if
you have any experience with use of stripped human serum in your culture system and whether you think stripping is needed for our system at all.
